The designer needs a homepage copy refresh. They wait for the AI person. The PM wants to prototype three landing page variants. They wait. The founder wants a competitive teardown drafted. They wait.

What the bottleneck actually costs you
The obvious cost is speed. If one person is generating all the AI output, you're moving at one person's pace — which defeats the point.
But the less obvious cost is quality.
When AI output flows through a single person, feedback has nowhere to go. The designer sees the copy and has notes — but they're Slacking the AI person, who's three projects deep, who might get back to them tomorrow. The PM has structural suggestions. Why this happened
A year ago, nobody had a process for collaborating on AI output. Why would they? The tools didn't exist.
Traditional collaboration tools — Google Docs, Figma, Notion — were built for human-generated work. You write something, share it, someone comments, you revise. The assumption baked in: the thing being reviewed came from a human, lives in a static document, and gets better through one or two rounds of editing.
AI output breaks all three assumptions.
It's generated, not written — which means changes are cheap and fast, so you should want to iterate more, not less. It often comes out of a chat window, not a shareable document. And it gets dramatically better with specific, visual feedback — "move this section up," "make the CTA more urgent," "this headline doesn't match the rest of the page" — not abstract Slack commentary.
The tools that teams have been using weren't designed for this. So teams defaulted to what they knew: route everything through one person, pass notes by DM, and hope for the best.
What a real team AI workflow looks like
Here's what changes when teams fix the bottleneck.
The output gets shared, not described. Instead of the AI person pasting text into Slack, the actual rendered output — the landing page, the email, the mockup — is shared somewhere everyone can see it.
Feedback is specific and in context. Instead of "the hero section feels off," teammates leave comments directly on the artifact: "this headline buries the lead," "swap this paragraph order," "the CTA should be above the fold." The AI person doesn't have to guess what "feels off" means.
Iteration gets faster. When feedback is clear, specific, and attached to the right part of the page, re-prompting takes minutes. Teams start running five or six iterations instead of two — because the loop is fast enough to be worth running.
The bottleneck loosens. When non-AI teammates can weigh in directly on the output, the AI person spends less time fielding vague verbal notes and more time actually generating. Over time, other teammates start generating too.
